The course aims to develop effective skills in time and stress reaction management and appreciation of emotional intelligence.
Learning outcomes:
Doctoral students will be able: LO 1. to classify intellectual and non-intellectual behavior in the field of emotions; LO2. to apply knowledge about understanding and managing emotions in production and management; LO3. to analyze conflict situations in terms of adequate management of emotions; LO 4. to demonstrate understanding of the mechanism of the stressing reaction appearance and its consequences for a person; LO 5. to recognize the differences between the “positive” and “negative” stress reactions of a person; LO 6. to evaluate the level of their stress; |
LO 7. to integrate the knowledge on stress management into personal life
LO 8. to list the criteria to be taken into account when setting goals;
LO 9. to apply time management tools.
Prerequisites and co-requisites (if applicable): MSc, MEng or MA background
Course content:
Special attention is paid to the theoretical and practical issues related to: 1. Сoncept of emotional intelligence, it’s structure; 2. Models of emotional intelligence in modern psychology; 3. Features of understanding and identification of emotions, expression of emotions, emotions as facilitators of thinking, management of negative and positive emotions 4. History of research on stress; 5. Types of stress: positive and negative; 6. Stress management: relaxation and physical activities; understanding and expressing feelings; reevaluation of stress and positive thinking; creativity; 7. Goal setting and planning: concept and methods of goal setting, planning technologies; |
8. Time management basics: time management forms and tools.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:
Teaching: giving lectures and presentations, arranging seminars, practicums and trainings, receiving feedback on course from students, giving practical assignments or exercises (class/home) – individual and for groups/ teams, promoting critical thinking, constructive critics and self-criticism, stimulating students to formulate own opinions, supporting personal responsibility and promoting ethical principles

Learning active: interactions between professor and students including participation in discussions, team/group exercises, collaborative teamwork, sharing experiences with peers, self-evaluation, essay writing

Learning passive: attending lectures and seminars, listening, watching and reading learning materials, remembering/ memorizing, repeating

HW1. To explore proverbs and sayings in national language on emotions and intelligence and interactions between them. To draw “emotion portraits” based on real life experience.
